Vintage depression glass lamp makeover

I love depression glass. No matter the color, it has such an eclectic vibe that you can make work no matter the decor. You can shabby it up, use it with with french country decor, in your cottage, or even with a retro style.

I found a great lamp at Goodwill the other day for $8. The style and glass were so appealing, but I am not a huge fan of antiqued brass. I still got it anyway because I had a solution in mind.

I decided I would spray the brass black then distress it. Typically I recommend using a good spray paint such as Krylon, but when I spray something that is going to be distressed anyway, I use the cheap 99 cent cans from Wal Mart or Home Depot. In this case, that is exactly what I did. I taped of the glass so I wouldn't get any spray on it. I didn't have painter's tape around, so I just used packaging tape.

I sprayed on two light coats then distressed it with my angled sanding block.

I had a lampshade that I purchased from Home Goods about 5 years ago. I wish I had bought 10 of these I love it so much. And for the finished product......

  21. Even just getting the lamp alone for three dollars was impressive. It's a really nice lamp especially the bottom part of it. What you did to it though makes it extremely beautiful and much more desirable to other people.
