A year or so ago I bought a vintage vanity at the Salvation Army for like $15. I've tried it in my room and Sami's room, but it just didn't work in either. Here is the most recent color it was after Sami's room.
It has been sitting in the gutted hallway collecting dust and getting in the way. So, I decided I was going to incorporate it into my bedroom by taking it apart and using it as two night stands. Here it is apart. It was so easy and took me about 2 minutes to turn it into this:
I knew I wasn't going to distress it (I know, can you believe I just said that), because I didn't want the apple green to come through. For this reason, I painted it 3 coats with white semi gloss. I am so pleased with how they came out.
One of the original pulls was broken, so I left the top two and replaced the other 6 with awesome glass knobs I found at TJ MAXX. They were only $2 each.

these are always my fave kinds of nightstands! i have made a few sets out of vanities and they are the perfect size for tall beds and narrow spaces, and they are pretty, too! i love yours and love the knobs you used. your bedroom is just so pretty and i like the lightness they add next to the dark wall and bolder bedding.
ReplyDeleteWhat a great idea. They look better as nighstands anyway. Look great by the bed.
ReplyDeleteGreat job Lisa! They fit perfectly in there and pop against the dark walls. The knobs looks so cute too. Your bedroom is SO pretty-I love the wall color and ceiling!

This is a fantastic idea! I've had a similar vanity and matching dresser since I was 5 and was finally getting around to thinking about a new "grown up" bedroom set. Decided to keep the dresser and shabby-chic it. Now I can have matching bedside tables! Thank you!
ReplyDeleteGreat idea, Lisa, and they turned out so beautiful. They look perfect in your bedroom!
ReplyDeleteThose glass knobs are really nice. I honestly think it looks better separated. It was a good call on your part to do that.

Can you shoot me some instructions on what tools you used and where you started on it. I'm not too good with what tools to use.
ReplyDeleteCan you tell me how you did it and what tools you used and what refinishing you had to do after. thanks.
