I found a great lamp at Goodwill the other day for $8. The style and glass were so appealing, but I am not a huge fan of antiqued brass. I still got it anyway because I had a solution in mind.
I decided I would spray the brass black then distress it. Typically I recommend using a good spray paint such as Krylon, but when I spray something that is going to be distressed anyway, I use the cheap 99 cent cans from Wal Mart or Home Depot. In this case, that is exactly what I did. I taped of the glass so I wouldn't get any spray on it. I didn't have painter's tape around, so I just used packaging tape.
I sprayed on two light coats then distressed it with my angled sanding block.
I had a lampshade that I purchased from Home Goods about 5 years ago. I wish I had bought 10 of these I love it so much. And for the finished product......

Wow, I just love this! You know another option is rubb n buff, the greatest stuff ever! That lampshade is so cool, looks different with the light on. Great find!

ReplyDeleteEven just getting the lamp alone for three dollars was impressive. It's a really nice lamp especially the bottom part of it. What you did to it though makes it extremely beautiful and much more desirable to other people.
