Refinished shabby chic table and ice cream parlor chairs

A few years back I got a table from a friend of mine. We bartered the table for my painting services. I had painted it a cream a few years back, but the weather has taken its toll on it.

About 5 years ago I purchased 6 ice cream parlor chairs that were very chippy and rusty with no seat. I knew with a lot of elbow grease though, there was plenty of potential.

To make them like new, I sanded, scraped, and took a metal brush to them. I cut out plywood circles for seats and bought a pretty outdoor fabric from Fabric.com.  I sprayed them with a copper color.

I used these chairs as my inspiration to decorate the rest of the deck. Yesterday I shared my wicker I freshened up with my new rain proof pillows. (That post can be seen HERE)

So, my last task was to tie the new table color in with the wicker pillows and the ice cream parlor seats. I chose a very pale aqua blue.

I'm pleased with how it has all tied in with each other. Now if it would only start warming up around here so we could have a meal outside.

Only two days left to enter my GIVEAWAY from Rustic Blooms.

  2. Love your newly painted table and the chairs too. I have 3 ice cream parlour chairs that were my aunt's from her tea room in the 1930's. I use 2 of them outdoors in summer and they are painted yellow. Of course, I never leave them out in the rain as I don't want the seats ruined. I hope we both get some warm weather soon! Blessings, Pamela

  8. Hi, I just found your blog. Very nice table and chair set! You did a great job, even down to cutting out a new seat! Now, why did I never think of doing that with chairs I've seen before?! I'm your newest follower. I'm a new blogger and still "tweaking" and would love to have you stop by and check me out if you get a chance, and follow back.

  13. I have the table and 4 chairs from a local drug store that closed over 30 years ago. My sister and I probably sat at this table drinking Cherry Coke. I would always get three squirts of Cherry flavor in my Coke. I have seen these chairs on another website where they covered the heart as well as the seat. I will have to take one chair to a hardware store to get the attachments and the thin metal surrounding the hearts. I purchased some red and white striped "mattress ticking" and some fringe to go around the table and will cover most of the chair bolts. I can only cover the front and sides of the chairs because the heart back attachment has too much hardware that cannot be covered. I am so excited about this project and can hardly wait until it is completed. The chairs are painted a cream color and are already distressed naturally. So, I just have to wash them and leave the distressed look, plus they match the off-white color in the material. Thanks for sharing.
