Whimsical chic chalkboards.....

A while back a friend of mine gave me a vintage cabinet that is something like a modular home.  It comes apart and can be put back together again.  She gave it to me apart not knowing if all of the pieces were still there.  I put it together and painted it.

The inner shelves were missing, so I would have to buy wood to make new ones.  The doors were crooked and wouldn't shut right.Plus the entire piece was wobbly.   Needless to say, I just wasn't happy with it at all.  It has sat in my kitchen since December.  I have hemmed and hawed what to do with this.  I even considered turning it into firewood because of the frustration it is causing me....

Then the lightbulb turned on.  Pull it apart and use the pieces!  Today I am sharing what I have done with the two doors......

First I re-painted the inner black with Krylon chalkboard paint.  I gave each of them two coats allowing them to dry an hour in between.

I didn't really like the color I originally painted them, so I chose two new colors for each. A very pale aqua blue and a celery green.

I distressed the frames of both.....

When using chalkboard paint, you want to cure the entire area by rubbing the side of the chalk all over.

Wipe clean and go to town with your new piece of wall art!
