About 6 years ago I purchased a gorgeous dresser, but it was moldy, smelly, and the paint job had seen better days. It is unlike me to not paint a piece of furniture. But for once, I decided I would strip this down to bare wood and stain it....Here it is in all it's glory.
But, yes there is a but. After 6 years, no one has ever noticed this piece. It even sits at the top of my stairs where you practically trip on it. So I decided today, that this lovely piece was getting....you guessed it....some paint.
First I primed it with Bin....Already lighter and brighter.
I chose this VERY pale aqua. I only paid $1 for this OOPS BM paint.
And the reveal.....
AAHHHH! Much better...I know, some of you are cringing because I painted over gorgeous wood. I purchased the drawer pulls of ebay that came to less than $2 each when you factor in the shipping. To my surprise, they came with ANTHROPOLOGIE tags on them!!! I seriously don't think the seller knew what they had just sent me because they said NOTHING about Anthro in the listing. In addition to painting the dresser today, I also had fun with a sign. I picked up a vintage fork and spoon at the thrift the other day for 10 cents each. I sprayed them with apple green, then glued them to an EAT sign I conjured up....I love the whimsy of it....
Take care,
Lisa

ReplyDeleteLove the pale aqua...one of my all time favorite colors. I cringe when painting great wood but, I have to agree this one pops with the paint! Also love the sign; love the painted flatware. Thanks for the inspiration.
ReplyDeleteThank you for the warning on backing things up...I tried to catch up on my blog reading after the holidays and wondered what happened but glad to see you are back! Thanks again and sorry for all your heartache!
ReplyDeleteHi Lisa , thanks for your sweet comments on my blog. I found yours at My Romantic Home and love all your projects. Every post has something to inspire me. My favorite so far is the reading rack in the bathroom, being a big reader, I would love one of those.I was horrified to hear you had a blog vanish on you. I would be devastated if any of mine vanished as I haven't backed any of them up. I will be following your advice to do that right away and plan to write a post about it to warn my other blogging buddies. Thanks for the advice, love your style, look forward to seeing what you have in store for us this year, Rhianna
ReplyDeleteShe looks GREAT...LOVE the color!!!

Looks great! I always cringe a little when I paint over wood, but I figure 'I like what I like'...paint it :) What are those glass balls/knobs in your plant basket? Very cool touch!
ReplyDeleteEvery time I see a sign that says eat. I get hungry. They should put that sign in restaurants to make people eat more.
